Kybella

Conveniently located to serve the areas of Fayettville, Hope Mills, Lumberton, Eastover, Dunn, Raleigh and surrounding areas of North Carolina and South Carolina

Having a “double chin,” or excess fat in the lower face is a common struggle for both men and women. This area of the face can be difficult to target with working out or a healthy diet, but at Carolina Plastic Surgery, we offer a safe, non-surgical solution to smoothing and lifting this area – Kybella injections.

Before Kybella, patients thought that the only way to lose their double chin was through liposuction. This area is notorious for accumulating stubborn fat that will not respond to any amount of diet and exercise. Now, Kybella offers a non-surgical treatment to help patients get rid of their double chin. Contact Dr. Saira Saini of Carolina Plastic Surgery in Fayetteville, NC today to schedule a Kybella consultation!

Kybella

In a recent survey by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, nearly 70 percent of men and women reported feeling dissatisfied with their submental fullness – the area underneath the chin where excess fat accumulation can create the appearance of a double chin. This common condition can be caused by multiple factors, including weight gain, genetics, and the natural aging process, but with non-surgical Kybella injections, it can be reversed.
Kybella is an injectable formula that can correct the appearance of a double chin. The formula is injected into the fat underneath the chin and works by destroying the fat cells in that area. After the fat dies, it is naturally eliminated from the body. Once the fat has been eliminated from the body, new fat cells will not be able to grow in this area. This means that Kybella patients can enjoy long-lasting results for years to come, typically never requiring a touch up procedure.

How Does Kybella Work?

The first injectable of its kind, Kybella is comprised of deoxycholic acid, which is found naturally in the body and aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fatty tissues underneath the chin, the deoxycholic acid permanently disables fat cells and prevents them from storing or accumulating fat in the future. This in turn causes a slight lifting effect under the chin, creating a more aesthetically pleasing profile.

Benefits of Kybella

  • Non-surgical with long-lasting results
  • Visible reduction in submental fullness in as little as two to four treatments
  • Fast, convenient treatments for busy patients
  • Zero downtime
  • Once aesthetic goals are achieved, further treatment is typically not necessary
  • FDA-approved and extensively tested for safety and efficacy for both men and women

Good Candidates

Kybella may be a good treatment option for patients who are unhappy with their appearance of a double chin.
Some patients may have lost a significant amount of weight, however, they have fat under their chin that is not responsive to weight loss efforts. Other patients may be at a healthy and stable body weight, but they still possess a double chin. Kybella is a good treatment in either circumstance.
If a patient has a double chin and is unhappy with their appearance, then they will likely be a good candidate for Kybella. However, patients should be making the cosmetic change for themselves and not to please another person. Furthermore, they should be in good mental and physical health. This means that patients should be at a stable body weight, nonsmoker, and possess the proper ability to heal. They should also have some elasticity remaining in their skin. Patients with poor elasticity may be better suited for another treatment, such as a neck lift.

Ultimately, the only way to determine whether or not the patient would be a good candidate for Kybella is by scheduling a personal consultation with Dr. Saini in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Contact us today to request a private consultation.

Kybella vs Liposuction vs Neck Lift

Compared to liposuction and a neck lift, Kybella is the least invasive of the three procedures. It is also the only procedure that is nonsurgical. The results are not seen immediately, like those of liposuction or a neck lift, but many patients find that the lack of downtime and recovery is worth the wait to see results. Kybella is an excellent treatment option for patients who want to get rid of their double chin, but can’t afford to take time off from work or their routine in order to recover from a more invasive surgery.
Patients must possess good skin elasticity if wanting to undergo these treatments so the skin can “bounce back” to its newly contoured position once the fat has been removed from the area.
Patients interested in Kybella or liposuction should have some elasticity remaining in their skin. This is because Kybella and traditional liposuction does not address lax skin. If the patient has poor skin elasticity, then they may also require a neck lift. A neck lift can easily be combined with Kybella or liposuction to first remove fat and then remove excess skin from the patient’s neck that droops down. Neither Kybella or liposuction will have any effect on excess skin.
At the time of the consultation, Dr. Saini will be able to help the patient determine the best course of treatment for their body and to help them meet their aesthetic goals.

Kybella Injection Process

Kybella injections are quick and effective. Patients will come into the office and Dr. Saini will be able to inject the fat reduction solution under the chin in less than half an hour. The Kybella injection needle is very thin and most people find the treatment comfortable. We can however offer ice to patients to numb the area or topical anesthetic cream. Patients who are interested in anesthetic should let the practice know prior to the treatment date. A special grid will be drawn on the neck to mark each specific injection point, and the solution is then administered in the appropriate locations. Up to 50 injections can be performed in a single session.

Recovery

Injectable treatments can result in slight bruising, redness, swelling, and itching, but these typically subside within the first day. Most patients return immediately to their normal activities after treatment. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled so Dr. Saini can assess the results and see if additional injections are necessary.
Contact Carolina Plastic Surgery today to schedule a consultation and find out how non-surgical Kybella treatments can reduce submental fullness underneath the chin without surgery or downtime.

Results

The results from Kybella are not immediate. It will take some time for the solution to destroy the targeted fat cells and for those fat cells to be naturally eliminated from the body. Most patients will require a series of treatments, but once the treatment series is complete, they will have a slim, contoured neck and jawline. Depending on the severity of the patient’s case, they will require up to six sessions to achieve desired results. The sessions are usually spaced about one month apart.

Your Consultation

The consultation is the time when Dr. Saini will meet personally with the patient in order to determine the best course of treatment to safely reach the patient’s goals.
First, Dr. Saini will ask the patient about their cosmetic concerns and what they hope to achieve from Kybella treatment. She will also ask the patient details about their medical history. This will include any medications that the patient is currently taking, past surgeries or procedures that they’ve had, and any conditions that may affect the patient’s treatment or ability to recover.
Secondly, Dr. Saini will conduct a physical examination in order to help determine what treatment the patient would benefit from most. This will include determining the amount of fat to be removed and the patient’s skin elasticity.
If the patient is a good candidate for Kybella, then she will work with the patient in order to create a customized treatment plan.
Finally, Dr. Saini will recommend a course of treatment for the patient. This will include how many treatment sessions that the patient will require and the spacing of these treatments. In some cases, Dr. Saini may recommend an alternative course of treatment, such as liposuction, a neck lift, or a combination of the two.
Once Dr. Saini and the patient have completed the consultation and the patient is fully informed of their options, then they will have the opportunity to schedule their first treatment date. However, patients should not feel pressured to schedule their treatment right away. At Carolina Plastic Surgery, we understand that undergoing a cosmetic procedure is a big decision. Our goal is to help the patient feel as comfortable and informed as possible in making this decision.

Cost

The cost of Kybella injections will vary depending on how many injections and how many sessions will be required in order to achieve the patient’s contouring goals.
