About Facial Dermaplaning
As we age, our skin needs to have the reset button pushed from time to time. Our skin accumulates dead skin and dirt that hides behind a layer of cellular debris. The dead skin clogs our pores and increases the chance of ingrown hair and acne. We may do things to overcompensate like hiding the scars with a heavy application of makeup and foundation. You don’t have to worry about that after treatment; you’ll leave with brighter and smoother skin. A dermaplane facial treatment gently removes the cellular waste with a medical-grade blade. It doesn’t cause any damage to the outside layer of the skin. The results leave you with glowing baby soft skin. You can see impressive results in just one session! Preparing for your treatment does not require a whole lot of work. There are a few quick things you can do to enjoy a swift procedure. First, we understand it is tempting, but please stop your skin care regime 1 week before treatment. This includes waxing and applying skin care products because it may create complications during your procedure. Stop any home exfoliation treatment for about a week. Next, we advise you to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun a week before treatment. Patients experiencing an acne flare-up are recommended to hold off on their treatment until after it clears.
After we settle a few remaining items, you will be taken to one of our treatment rooms. First, your skin will be cleansed to remove oils, bacteria, and dirt. The dermaplaning process causes little, if any, discomfort. It feels like you got a clean shave from a caring professional. Dermaplaning uses medical-grade 10 and 10R-gauge scalpels. Dr. Saini will meticulously go through the treated areas to remove hair and dead skin cells effortlessly. Once the treated area is scraped, a warm towel will be applied to relax you and to remove any remaining debris. A soothing moisturizer or serum will be applied after treatment to keep your skin looking radiant. The entire procedure should take 30-45 minutes.
You should be pleased to know that there is no recovery required whatsoever. The procedure is so quick that it has been on the marquee as the “lunchtime treatment.” You can return to your daily life right after the procedure. There are a few post-treatment instructions to follow. Your skin will be sensitive to the touch for a short period. This means you should avoid applying makeup 1-2 days after. Also, avoid direct sun exposure because your skin will be sensitive. If you catch yourself doing so, we recommend applying sunscreen with broad-spectrum protection.
Patients can expect immediate results of softer, younger-looking skin void of dead skin cells and dirt. It also does wonders at removing pesky peach fuzz. However, give your results a few days to fully show themselves. You may experience some redness in the treated areas but that will go away in due time.
Results from facial dermaplaning are not permanent. The procedure can last for about 3 weeks. As long as you take good care of your skin and practice healthy habits you should maintain the results for a little while longer. Some patients may need additional sessions for optimized results.
Corresponding & Complementary Procedures
Dermaplaning is great for those wanting a fresh start for their skin. It provides a breath of fresh air for the face. Patients looking for a comprehensive upgrade to the skin can seek additional treatments that Carolina Plastic Surgery offers.
Patients looking to do something about uneven skin tone and dark spots can come to our office and get a microdermabrasion treatment. Using a minimally abrasive tool, Dr. Saini will gently sand away thick uneven outer areas of the skin. The result unveils fresh new skin hidden underneath.
CoolSculpting is a captivating innovation that helps augment the contours of your body. This non-invasive procedure works by freezing fat skills that signal the body to remove it entirely. This technique reduces stubborn fat cells in a targeted area of the body to match your refreshed face.

No. A facial dermaplane treatment is a completely safe and harmless procedure. Patients note that it feels like having a thorough shave. Using a 10 and 10R surgical gage scalpel, you can experience a finer shave with the help of a licensed professional.
This is extremely tempting but the answer is no. It is a difficult skill to craft. Only professionals who have perfected their craft can deliver great results.
Unfortunately, facial dermaplaning results are not permanent. They last for a few months. We recommended additional treatment sessions on either a monthly or seasonal basis. You can preserve your new supple skin if you keep up with a healthy skin care regime.
